The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s readiness to partner with organisations committed to improving the well-being and socioeconomic development of citizens.
Yusuf made the pledge on Tuesday when he received officials of a Turkish humanitarian foundation, the İnsana Değer Veren Dernekler Federasyonu, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.
A statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, stated that the partnership aligns with Yusuf’s commitment to enhancing the lives of Kano residents, noting that the collaboration is expected to strengthen humanitarian interventions across the state.
The governor highlighted his administration’s strides in the last two years in areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, and skills acquisition.
He emphasised that humanitarian collaborations would further drive poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and social welfare initiatives.
“Our administration remains open to partnerships that bring value to the lives of our people. IDDEF’s interventions in health, education, and humanitarian relief perfectly align with our development priorities,” Yusuf said.
Earlier, Sheikh Rasul Jawad, a member of IDDEF’s Board of Trustees, explained that the foundation was established three decades ago by the Turkish Islamic cleric Sheikh Mahamud Efendi.
He noted that the foundation now operates in 60 countries, including Nigeria, with a focus on educating millions of students and providing critical humanitarian services.
Also speaking, the foundation’s Nigerian coordinator, Dr. Askiya Nasiru Kabara, outlined IDDEF’s interventions in education, healthcare, potable water provision, and male child circumcision.
He announced the establishment of a college in Kano named after Sheikh Mahamud Efendi, which is set to commence operations soon.
Arewa PUNCH reports that Kano State, with a population of over 15 million people, has in recent years sought international partnerships to expand its social and economic development agenda, particularly in health and education.
