The Kano State Government has inaugurated a “Committee on the Review of Qualifying Examinations” as part of efforts to strengthen and improve the state’s education sector.
The committee was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Research, Evaluation and Political Affairs Directorate, in the SSG’s office.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Press Secretary, SSG’s Office, Musa Muhammad, and made available to The PUNCH on Friday.
Speaking during the inauguration, the SSG said the establishment of the committee reflects the present administration’s strong commitment to advancing education and sustaining the achievements recorded under the leadership of Governor Abba Yusuf.
“The decision to constitute the committee was informed by the administration’s resolve to improve the education sector and consolidate on the gains achieved so far,” Ibrahim said.
He explained that reviewing the qualifying examination system had become necessary to ensure efficiency, fairness, and improved student performance across secondary schools in the state.
According to him, the committee has been mandated to examine existing processes and structures guiding the planning and conduct of qualifying examinations, assess the adequacy of materials, logistics, and personnel, and identify areas that require improvement to enhance overall outcomes.
The committee is expected to submit its report within four weeks.
It is chaired by the Special Adviser on Corporate Social Responsibility, with members drawn from the Ministry of Education, Kano Educational Resource Department, Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board, and the Senior Secondary Schools Management Board.
The Secretary of the committee is Muhammad Yusuf, Under Secretary, Cabinet Office, while the Co-Secretary is Jamilu Usman, Assistant Secretary II, Cabinet Office.
The statement added that the inauguration “represents another decisive step by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf toward revitalizing education and maintaining the state’s enviable record of excellence in both internal and external examinations.”
