The Jama’atu Nasril Islam has condemned the recent terrorist attack on a mosque in Ungwan Mantau community, Malumfashi Local Government Area of Katsina State, which left several worshippers dead.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Kaduna, the Secretary-General of JNI, Prof. Khalid Aliyu, described the attack as “senseless and barbaric,” expressing shock that worshippers could be targeted during early morning prayers.
“The JNI under the leadership of Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, is in utter disbelief that worshippers would be attacked in the early hours of Tuesday during the morning prayer in a mosque in Mantau community of Malumfashi LGA, Katsina State. The JNI condemns the attack in the strongest terms,” Aliyu said.
He called on the government to take decisive and proactive measures to tackle insecurity, noting that several appeals for an end to such violence had gone unheeded while attacks continued unabated.
Aliyu cited Quranic injunctions and constitutional provisions to stress the sanctity of human life and the duty of government to protect citizens.
He urged synergy among security agencies, religious bodies, and community leaders to find lasting solutions to the nation’s security challenges.
The JNI secretary-general also appealed to citizens to support security operatives with credible intelligence that could help prevent future attacks.
“JNI prays for the forgiveness of the victims and for their families to be consoled. We also pray for the authorities to be guided in their efforts to protect lives and property, and for the destruction of the enemies of the Nigerian state and the foiling of their evil plans,” the statement added.
