The Kebbi State Government has approved the appointment of Alhaji Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami as the new Emir of Zuru, following the death of the late Emir, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Sami (Gomo II).
Governor Nasir Idris gave the approval on Thursday, with the letter of appointment formally presented in Zuru by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar Dutsin-Mari.
According to Dutsin-Mari, the new emir emerged after securing the highest number of votes in the selection process conducted by the Zuru Emirate kingmakers.
He disclosed that three candidates were screened by the emirship election committee before Sami was recommended to the governor.
“The appointment is in line with the will of the people and the recommendation of the election committee.
“Out of the three candidates considered, Alhaji Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami received the highest votes and was duly selected to ascend the throne,” Dutsin-Mari stated.
The commissioner expressed gratitude to the governor for swiftly approving the appointment and urged the new traditional ruler to justify the confidence reposed in him.
He further advised the Emir to rule with fairness, justice, and the fear of God, while preserving the legacies of his late predecessor.
The late Emir of Zuru passed away on August 16, 2025, in a London hospital after a brief illness.
