Kebbi urges prayers for safe return of abducted schoolgirls

Kebbi State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sani Aliyu, says the state government is calling on citizens of all faiths to intensify prayers for the safe return of students abducted from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

He made the call on Friday at Government House, Birnin Kebbi, urging religious leaders, clerics, and worshippers to engage in continuous and fervent supplications for divine intervention.

Aliyu said the situation confronting the state requires deep spiritual reflection, stressing that while government and security agencies continue their efforts, the magnitude of the challenge demands God’s intervention.

He said, “There are moments when human efforts alone are not enough. It is only Allah who can rescue us from these predicaments and restore peace and comfort.”

He specifically encouraged Islamic scholars, Ulama, and Imams to observe continuous Qunūt during and after the five daily prayers, especially in the late hours of the night.

Similarly, he urged Christian pastors and clergy to dedicate moments during sermons and worship services to pray for peace in Kebbi and Nigeria.

The Commissioner also appealed to residents to remain vigilant, avoid associating with criminal elements, and provide useful information to security agencies.

He said, “We must be our brothers’ keepers,” reminding citizens that everyone will ultimately account for their actions before God.

Aliyu extended the government’s sympathies to the families of the abducted students, the Zuru Emirate, and the school community. He also conveyed Governor Nasir Idris’s appreciation to individuals and organisations who have visited the state to express solidarity since the incident.

Idris, who earlier hosted delegations including Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, NLC leadership under Joe Ajaero, and Minister of State for Defence Mohammed Bello Matawalle, had also emphasised the need for sustained prayers.

The governor joined Friday prayers in Argungu, where special supplications were offered during the commissioning of the renovated Jumu’at Mosque for the safe release of the abducted students and for lasting peace across the state.

The District Head of Maga community in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Muhammad Sanid Dantani, on Friday said there would be a special prayer session seeking divine intervention for the safe return of the schoolgirls.
