Kirkland’s Home shoppers across California will soon see “Store Closing” signs. The home décor retailer is shutting down at least 10 locations statewide by the end of the year, and none will be converted into Bed Bath & Beyond stores.

The Brand House Collective CEO and Director Amy Sullivan said during an analyst call on Sept. 16. that the company would close 25 locations by January due to lease expirations and that these locations would not be included in the two-year conversion plan.

The Brand House Collective announced on Sept. 15 that it sold Kirkland’s intellectual property to Bed Bath & Beyond for $10 million, a move Bed Bath & Beyond said would accelerate store conversions. Sullivan said on the analyst call that around 250 storefronts would make up the new Bed Bath & Beyond footprint.

Bed Bath & Beyond is attempting to make a comeback after filing for bankruptcy and closing all its stores in 2023. It reopened its first Bed Bath & Beyond Home near Nashville on Aug. 8, with two more opening in Tennessee since, according to the company’s store locator.

USA TODAY has reached out to Bed Bath & Beyond and The Brand House Collective for comment on the closures, but has not received an immediate response.

Here are the Kirkland’s Home locations that are reported to be closing so far.

Florida

The Jacksonville Daily Record reported that the location at The Markets at Town Center in Jacksonville is set to close. Calls made to the location’s listed phone number by USA TODAY did not connect. USA TODAY confirmed with employees that the locations at Wrangleboro Consumer Square in Mays Landing and Watchung Square Mall in Watchung are set to close. Radio station WPUR first reported the Mays Landing closure on Oct 27. The stores are located at 2300 Consumer Square, Suite 280, and 1515 Route 22 West, Suite 39, respectively.

Why no Bed Bath & Beyond stores in California?

Despite Bed Bath & Beyond’s comeback efforts — including reopening its first store near Nashville on Aug. 8 — Executive Chairman Marcus Lemonis said in an Aug. 20 statement that California will not see any brick-and-mortar locations. Instead, delivery will serve the state’s 39 million residents exclusively.
