They helped you learn your ABCs, or gave you the encouragement you needed to earn your BA, MA or Ph.D.
They taught you how to add 2 + 6, or how to build that bridge from Algebra to pre-calculus when it all looked like Latin.
They’re the teachers who guide us, inspire us and prepare us for the world outside the classroom as we make our way from kindergarten to college and beyond — and with your help, FLORIDA TODAY wants to honor them.
Starting Sept. 28th, you’ll be able to cast your vote for Brevard’s Teacher of the Week. Nominations are open now via the form below, and polls will consist of five names submitted by readers. Each week, we’ll post a list of nominated teachers for that week online and in print. You’ll have until noon Thursdays to cast your vote. We’ll announce the winner online Friday mornings and in print the following Sundays. Click here or keep reading to nominate your favorite current Brevard educator.
How does it work?
Readers can nominate teachers from around Brevard using FLORIDA TODAY’s online form. Each week, we’ll compile the nominated teachers for that week’s poll, and readers will vote for their favorite.
Polls will close on Thursday evenings at noon, and the Teacher of the Week, as chosen by voters, will be named on Friday at floridatoday.com and in print on Sunday. You’ll also find the new poll for that week published Sunday.
Who can be nominated?
You can nominate any current teacher in Brevard. That includes daycare teachers; K-12 teachers and instructional assistants, speech therapists and other pullout instructors from gifted programs at public, charter and private schools; teachers for after-school programs or summer school; and professors at Florida Tech and Eastern Florida State College.
What information should I include in my nomination?
Please make sure to fill out every question on the form. When a teacher is included in a weekly poll, we’ll include why they were nominated — so be sure to tell readers (in a few sentences) why the teacher deserves to be Teacher of the Week.
How often should I nominate a teacher?
You can nominate as many teachers as you want, but please don’t submit the same name twice (though more than one person may submit the same teacher). If a teacher is nominated but not listed in that week’s poll, they may be listed in the following weeks.
Do I need a subscription to nominate a teacher?
No subscription necessary. All readers can submit the names of their favorite teachers, and anyone can participate in the polls.
Can I nominate a teacher anonymously?
No. FLORIDA TODAY won’t publish your contact information, but we may need to reach you if we have questions about your nominee.
Is there a deadline to nominate a teacher?
FLORIDA TODAY plans to run the Teacher of the Week feature throughout this school year, so the nomination form will remain open indefinitely. There is no deadline to nominate a teacher.
