Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has been honoured by the Nigerian Association of Christian Journalists with the Integrity Governor of the Year Award for his exemplary leadership and commitment to transparent governance.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, on Wednesday, the presentation took place on Tuesday in Ilorin, where NACJ President, Dr. Charles Okhai, said the governor earned the recognition for his “impressive achievements across multiple sectors”.
Okhai explained that AbdulRazaq topped the ranking process involving four other states, noting his administration’s progress in education, infrastructure, healthcare, youth empowerment, and transparency.
He commended the governor’s dedication to workers’ welfare, citing the regular promotion and prompt payment of salaries, as well as the transparent recruitment of over 8,600 qualified teachers to strengthen public education.
“When we nominated you, we didn’t look at you from a religious perspective but on account of your sterling performance,” Okhai said, adding that NACJ remains committed to promoting national development through credible journalism.
He was accompanied during the visit by Mr. Nasir Lawal.
In his response, AbdulRazaq dedicated the award to the people of Kwara State for their support and trust.
“We take this award as an acknowledgement of our modest efforts to improve the conditions of our people and deliver political goods to the largest majority,” he said.
The governor noted that Kwara had consistently performed well in peer-review indices for transparency and governance, including international programmes facilitated by the World Bank and other global institutions.
“We have made significant progress in every sector. We are clearly leaving the state better networked in roads and other socioeconomic indices — and we are not resting.
“No government since 1999 has delivered as many projects in road connectivity, education, health, sports, or tech infrastructure as we have done in the last six years,” AbdulRazaq added.
The governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for his continued support to Kwara State.
