The Peoples Democratic Party in Kwara State has insisted that it is firmly on the ground and fully prepared to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.
The State Chairman of the party, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, made the vow during an exclusive interview with Arewa PUNCH on Saturday after the party successfully concluded its ward congresses across the 193 wards of the state, which produced new executives.
He said the peaceful and orderly conduct of the congresses was a reflection of the renewed strength and cohesion within the opposition party.
“As far as Kwara PDP is concerned, we are one big family, well prepared for the task ahead. With the support of the people, we are firmly on the ground and ready to challenge the APC as the main opposition party in 2027,” he declared.
Our corespondent, who monitored the exercise across the state, reports that the exercise was peaceful, transparent, and inclusive, with party members turning out in large numbers.
The PDP adopted a consensus method, which Mohammed explained helped foster unity and ensured all stakeholders were carried along.
The party chairman noted that stakeholders were directed ahead of the exercise to resolve issues amicably and in areas where traditional zoning applied to respect the arrangement.
He also attributed the smooth outcome of the congresses to what he described as the renewed sense of direction and stability within the Kwara PDP under the leadership of former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki.
According to him, the ward congresses not only produced new executives but also demonstrated the party’s growing grassroots strength and its readiness to play an active role in the state’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
“The peaceful congresses are a testament to our cohesion and preparedness. The PDP is stronger and more united, and we are ready for the challenges that lie ahead,” Mohammed stressed.
