Lagos APC Denies Unseating Consensus

The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State says there is no national consensus to unseat President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

The APC state spokesman, Mr Seye Oladejo, said this in a statement on Sunday while reacting to Senator Aminu Tambuwal’s recent claim of a national consensus to stop Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Tambuwal, a lawmaker representing Sokoto South Senatorial District and former governor of the state, had on a TV Programme on Friday, described the plan to unseat Tinubu in 2027 as a national consensus and not a northern conspiracy.

Reacting, Oladejo said, “What is emerging is a national consensus to support good governance—and when the time comes in 2027, Nigerians will not hesitate to reaffirm their trust in a leader who delivers.”

He said that APC noted with amusement the recent statement by Tambuwal, a Peoples Democratic Party chieftain and a former Speaker of the House of Representatives.

“This is yet another failed attempt to rewrite the obvious truth: Nigerians overwhelmingly rejected the opposition in 2023 and continue to support a government that is focused on performance, not propaganda.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was not imposed – he was elected by Nigerians from every region, faith, and background. And unlike the noise-makers in the opposition, he has hit the ground running.

“From economic stabilisation efforts to legacy infrastructure projects, the Renewed Hope Agenda is already yielding visible results.

“Halfway into his first term, the entire nation is beginning to appreciate the clarity, courage, and competence of his administration. Let it be known: there is no national consensus to unseat President Tinubu,” Oladejo said.

He urged Tambuwal to concentrate on clearing his name before the anti-graft agencies, which, he said, still have open questions regarding his tenure as governor of Sokoto State.

“Recent revelations have not painted him in a flattering light, and no amount of press statements can launder the trail of allegations surrounding his stewardship,” he said.

He described the opposition parties’ talks of consensus ahead of the 2027 general elections as laughable.

“We watch with close interest as they struggle to build what will be, no doubt, an elusive alliance—sabotaged by their own greed, inflated egos, unbridled desperation for power, and self-righteousness.

“Their ambitions are incompatible, their interests conflicting, and their loyalty lies only in the direction of personal advantage.

“We, the ruling party, wait with bated breath as the comedy movie hits cinemas nationwide. Nigerians are watching too—popcorn in hand,” he said.

According to him, APC remains focused on delivering for the Nigerian people.

“While the opposition plays musical chairs and media politics, we are building roads, creating jobs, fixing power, reforming the economy, and laying the foundation for a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria,” he added.

NAN reports that some opposition leaders recently adopted the African Democratic Congress as a platform to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
