The Deputy Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Meranda, on Thursday, gave scholarships to some students in tertiary institutions and provided food palliatives to indigent households.
The programmes were unveiled during an Annual Stakeholders’ Meeting in her constituency, Apapa 1, held at Rockview Hotel, Apapa, Lagos.
Over 500 households were provided with food palliatives while over 100 small petty traders got financial support of N100,000 each.
In partnership with the Zenco Group of companies, five students also received full scholarships for their tertiary education, while 200 holiday students graduated from a summer coding boot camp.
While speaking under the theme “Governance in Action: The Gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Meranda said the theme was not only timely but fitting.
“It reflects the very heartbeat of the moment in our nation’s history, a season when leadership at the national and state levels is translating promises into action, and vision into tangible benefits for the people.
“The Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has given us a new national direction built on job creation, infrastructure renewal, education, healthcare, security, and social inclusion.
“Here in Lagos State, under the leadership of our Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and in alignment with the THEMES agenda, we have domesticated this vision, and in Apapa Constituency 1, we are living witnesses to the dividends of this agenda,” the deputy speaker said.
She noted that on employment and empowerment, “we have facilitated opportunities for our youths and residents through placements in TESCOM, LASTMA, the Neighbourhood Watch, the Lagos State Rail Mass Transit (Blue Line), and the Local Government Service Commission. This is governance in action, creating pathways for our youths to be productive, self-reliant, and contributors to society.”
On infrastructure, she noted, in partnership with the Lagos State Government, “we will be commencing extensive road rehabilitation projects through the Lagos State Public Works Corporation.”
She said roads such as Adele Road, Udegbunam Street, Payne Crescent, Ogedegbe Road, Eko Lane, Aromire Street, Ashanti Close, Freetown Road, Sapele Road, Jetty Road, Idugaran Road, Cameroun Road, Oniru Street, Olofin Road, Ijora Olopa Market Road, and Julius Berger Road in Ijora GRA were receiving attention.
While restating her commitment to education and health, she also noted that, on community enhancement, “we facilitated borehole water projects in several communities to ensure access to clean and safe water.”
“My beloved constituents, I remain committed to walking this journey with you, shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, until Apapa Constituency 1 stands not just as a model for Lagos, but as a beacon of what the Renewed Hope Agenda can achieve across Nigeria.”
The PUNCH reports that the 10th constituency stakeholders meeting was held simultaneously on Thursday in all the 40 constituencies represented at the House.
In a speech obtained by The PUNCH, the Speaker of the Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, stated that the year’s theme had been carefully chosen to highlight the tangible benefits of governance, particularly in alignment with the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Tinubu.
“This also reflects the strides we are making here in Lagos State and at the Lagos State House of Assembly in particular. Today, I stand before you to celebrate these tangible achievements, to affirm our commitment to good governance, and to reaffirm that our renewed hope is not merely a slogan, but a call to action and a vision in progress,” Obasa said.
