The Lagos State Government has expanded its rural electrification initiative to more communities across the state.
According to a statement made available to The PUNCH on Sunday by the Lagos State Office of Rural Development, the expansion follows the directive of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to boost power supply and improve living standards in rural and semi-urban areas.
The initiative, the statement noted, seeks to provide stable electricity to underserved communities and stimulate grassroots economic growth.
One of the beneficiaries of the expansion is the Diamond Estate Community in Command, Ipaja, under the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, which received a brand-new transformer that has been fully installed and energised.
The Chairman of the Diamond Estate Community Development Association, Mr. Olayiwola Lookman, commended Sanwo-Olu for his commitment to rural infrastructure and also thanked the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Agbaje, for his intervention and supervision.
In the Igando-Ikotun Local Council Development Area, the Idojigbo and Badore West One communities were also said to have benefited from the expansion, as they reportedly received new transformers to enhance electricity supply.
The Chairman of the Idojigbo CDA, Mr Akindele Jellili, described the intervention as a “lifeline” for residents who had endured prolonged power challenges.
Similarly, the head of the Badore West One Community Development Association, Mr Martins Oduemo, praised the Sanwo-Olu administration’s focus on community welfare, noting that the improved power supply would support small businesses and improve residents’ quality of life.
The statement added, “The initiative has also made significant progress in the Ikorodu Division, where several communities — including Heritage Estate CDA in Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Golden Paradise Estate in Mowokekere, Ewu-Agbo Community in Agura, and Iradelu Itesiwaju Community in Imota LCDA — recently received new transformers.
“The Rural Electrification Initiative is one of the flagship programmes under Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, which targets infrastructural development in rural and peri-urban areas to ensure equitable access to essential services.
“The programme underscores the governor’s inclusive vision to make governance impactful across all communities, regardless of location. He reaffirmed that the state government would continue to identify and resolve power infrastructure gaps in every local government and LCDA.”
