The Lagos State Government has backed CreditPRO’s campaign against plastic pollution in the state.

This came as the finance company reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability with the official launch of its #EndPlasticPollution campaign — a community-driven initiative promoting responsible plastic waste management and greener living across Lagos State.

A Monday statement noted that the campaign, backed by the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency and the Office of Sustainable Development Goals, was launched on Saturday at the Chief Anthony Enahoro Housing Estate, Ogba.

The statement quoted the Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, Dr. Oreoluewa Finnih, who was represented by the Technical Special Assistant, Michael Folorunsho, as commending the initiative as timely and commendable.

Finnih said the initiative “aligns with SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and supports Lagos State’s vision for a cleaner, more resilient environment”.

It added that to kick-start the initiative, CreditPRO donated plastic collection bins to selected communities, including Chief Anthony Enahoro Housing Estates and George Crescent Estate, Ogba, marking the beginning of a citywide rollout aimed at encouraging waste segregation and recycling at the community level.

CreditPRO’s Managing Director, Dr. Sola Adeyiga, said the initiative underscored the company’s belief that business continuity and environmental responsibility are inseparable.

“The going concern of a business is not guaranteed without a healthy and sustainable environment. This is more than CSR; it’s purpose,” Adeyiga said.

Also speaking, the Director of Partnership, Grant Management and Innovation at LASEPA, Olabisi Shonibare, lauded the collaboration, describing plastic pollution as one of the state’s most pressing environmental challenges.

Lagos State has taken recent steps to tackle plastic pollution and encourage recycling.

In a post on X on Monday, the Lagos Waste Management Authority noted that its recycling team “continues to engage communities across Lagos, showing residents how simple recycling habits can earn rewards and help keep the city clean.”

Lagos has also implemented a full ban on single-use plastics, including styrofoam, plastic cutlery, straws, and thin nylon bags (less than 40 microns).
