The General Manager of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, has lauded motorists and residents for their perseverance and patience in enduring the traffic diversions occasioned by the ongoing rehabilitation of the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge corridor.

During his inspectional visitation to Ifako on Wednesday, Bakare-Oki reassured the motoring public that the reconstruction project was being executed under stringent international standards and would be completed within the stipulated timeframe given by the Lagos State Government.

The state government on August 19, began the second phase of the rehabilitation works on the Ogudu–Ifako Bridge in the Kosofe Local Government Area, following the completion of the first phase.

The second phase entails the restoration of the bridge’s expansion joints inbound Lagos Island, and is scheduled to last till October 1, 2025. The consequent diversion of traffic on the road has led to gridlock.

“I deeply empathise with our people over the inconveniences engendered by this diversionary arrangement. Nonetheless, this rehabilitation remains an indispensable undertaking of government imperative to safeguard lives, fortify the structural integrity of the bridge, and elevate the commuting experience along this vital transportation artery,” the GM said.

He further lauded Lagosians for their cooperation and for the necessary adjustments they had made to their daily routines, stressing that such civic discipline and sacrifice epitomised the resilience, fortitude, and collective spirit of the state’s populace.

He also lauded the commitment of LASTMA personnel manning the diversionary zones and other strategic corridors of the state, noting that no adverse complaints had been recorded against their conduct by either motorists or the general public.
