The Vetland Grammar School Old Students Association 03 Set has concluded the maiden edition of its Vocational Training Programme, held within the school premises at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Vocational Skills Training Committee and obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.
The six-day programme, which ran three times a week from Monday, July 28 to Friday, August 8, 2025, attracted over 130 junior and senior secondary school students eager to acquire practical skills alongside their formal education.
It was said that participants received hands-on training in baking, fashion designing, photography, architecture, shoemaking and plumbing.
The sessions were facilitated by professionals in each field, and enriched with motivational talks from alumni, education officials and former teachers.
The initiative was supported by the Lagos State Ministry of Education, District 1, with Mrs Akinfolarin representing the ministry on multiple days.
She commended the quality of the training and urged students to remain committed.
“The organisation and standard of this programme is impressive.
“I encourage you to take what you have learned seriously because these skills will serve you for life,” Akinfolarin told the students.
The programme recorded 109 participants on its opening day and ended with an even stronger turnout at the grand finale, where certificates were presented to trainees.
Students also shared positive feedback, from Onakoya David, a JSS2 student, and Mudashiru Aanuoluwapo from SS1, both from the fashion design class, said,”I never knew I could make a dress on my own until this week.”
Another participant, Eniola Grace Ayoola, JSS2, from the baking class, noted,”I can now bake and decorate a cake without fear.
“I feel ready to start my own small business.”
From the photography department, Adeyemi Mariam, JSS2, added,”I learned skills I never thought I’d understand, and I want to keep practicing even after school.”
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Vice Chair of the set, Bernice Aganoke Osai, encouraged students to apply their new knowledge beyond the classroom.
“The real success of this programme will be measured by how well you continue to practice and apply these skills in your daily lives,” she said.
With its successful debut, the VETOSAN 03 Set said the programme had laid the foundation for what it hopes will become a tradition of vocational empowerment for future generations of Vetland students.
