The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority has kicked off the second phase of its technical support programme with Transport for London, focusing on building staff capacity in key areas, including rail signalling, greenhouse gas emissions, and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment.
A Monday statement noted that the new phase of the partnership builds on the success of the initial six-month programme, delivered by TfL and supported by the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office.
That first phase helped LAMATA enhance its capabilities in planning, implementation, franchising, and regulation.
To launch the second phase, TfL’s External Advisory Manager Chris Chinnock and Systems Operational Manager Trevor Stevens led sessions with LAMATA staff, including targeted meetings with the rail and planning teams.
Speaking at the opening session, LAMATA’s Managing Director, Abimbola Akinajo, welcomed TfL’s continued involvement, noting that it reflected the agency’s growing capacity.
She urged staff to take full advantage of the training and resources available to deliver better transport services for Lagos residents.
Last August, experts from TFL assisted LAMATA in the first phase of the programme, which also aimed at optimising planning, implementing, franchising, and regulatory functions.
The experts shared extensive experience in public transportation management, including best practices in service planning and operations.
