LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KRQE) – A Las Cruces educator has been named New Mexico’s Teacher of the Year. The New Mexico Public Education Department presented the award on Monday to Nancy Orta, who teaches first grade at East Picacho Elementary School.

She began her career 25 years ago, including helping students who struggle with their reading skills. The PED secretary recognized Ms. Orta for her dedication to literacy, early childhood education, and student success.
