Far-right activist Laura Loomer came to the defense of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Tuesday, declaring that the Democratic revolt against him is part of “a movement to remove all Jewish voices from politics.”
A number of Democrats have raged against, and even called for Schumer to step down after eight members of his caucus voted in favor of a deal to end the government shutdown without securing an extension of the Affordable Care Act subsidies that Schumer and his colleagues had been holding out for.
Among the angry mob was Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA), who said the following during one interview:
Millions of Americans are literally going to get kicked off healthcare, and we can’t fight to make sure that their premiums don’t go up after the Tuesday wins. It’s just political malpractice. Here you have Donald Trump on the ropes, scrambling, trying to make some deal, and we basically say, “Well, we don’t care if the premiums go up.” Like, what do we stand for? So he [Schumer] needs to be replaced and step down. More Democrats need to be calling for that. The only reason they aren’t calling for it, let me be blunt, is because you offend a lot of donors. There are a lot billionaires, there are a lots of donors that contribute to the DSCC, that contribute the Chuck Schumer. But, you know, we’ve got to make a choice in this party. Are we going to be beholden to the donors that have gotten us two terms of Donald Trump, or are we going to listen to people?
Loomer adopted a grave tone in her reaction to Khanna’s comments.
“Even on the Left, there is a movement to remove all Jewish voices from politics. This is happening on the Left and Right. It’s very calculated,” wrote Loomer on X. “And I’m not a fan of Schumer. But we have to call a spade a spade. We are witnessing the beginning of a Pogrom in the United States.”
Loomer has gone to war with a number of right-wing figures over Israel and anti-Semitism in recent days, including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA).
