A Texas law professor is missing after he disappeared on Veterans’ Day while on a hike in the northern Georgia mountains.

Charles Hosch, 67, has been missing since Tuesday, Nov. 11, according to a news release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office.

His last known location was the Byron Herbert Reece Trail near Blood Mountain, authorities said.

Hosch was last seen “descending from the top of Blood Mountain,” according to information shared on his law firm website, Hosch & Morris, PLLC.

Kate Morris, his law partner, said Hosch “was visiting with his brother in Gainesville, Georgia, where they were from” when he vanished, according to CBS affiliate KTVT.

Morris claimed Hosch “intended to take a nature walk on the trail that he grew up hiking on” and seemingly “made it to the trail,” as his car was found there. However, Hosch has not answered his phone as he usually does.

Julia Hosch-Singh, the missing law professor’s daughter, said her family is “worried” about her father but is “hopeful” that he will be found.

“It is really heartening to see so many people working so hard to bring my dad home,” Hosch-Singh told KTVT.

Hosch was last seen wearing khaki pants, a camel-colored sweater and a dark green jacket, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office, which released an image of Hosch wearing the outfit in question.

The missing man is 6-foot-1 and about 200 lbs., according to his law firm website.

Hosch’s firm described him as a Harvard Law School graduate who has “dedicated more than three decades to mentoring law students at SMU Dedman School of Law and has been a cornerstone of our legal community.”

He was a partner at Strasburger & Price, LLP for 35 years before co-founding Hosch & Morris, PLLC, they added.

Hosch is also “a former Eagle Scout who has volunteered with the Scouts for years” and teaches Sunday school at University Park United Methodist Church, according to his firm.

He has been married to his wife Beth, whom he met in college, for 42 years, and recently became a grandpa for the first time.

Drone and K-9 units are assisting with the search, which included 95 search and rescue professionals as of Sunday, Nov. 16, according to Hosch’s law firm.

“To his peers and students alike, he is not only an exceptional attorney and teacher, but a wonderful friend whose unwavering reliability and warmth have touched countless lives,” Hosch’s firm said on its website.

Hunters in the area where Hosch disappeared are now being asked to contact the sheriff’s office if they have game cameras “on or near the Byron Herbert Reece Trail or surrounding Blood Mountain area,” authorities said.

“Your trail camera footage could provide critical information to help bring Charles home,” the sheriff’s office added. “Time is critical. Please share with any hunters you know in the area.”

Anyone with information about Hosch’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Union County Emergency Operations Center at (706) 439-6091 or call 911.
