LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Lexington organization hosted a walk on Sept. 18 to raise awareness on food insecurity to help those impacted by hunger in eastern Kentucky.
The Christian Appalachian Project (CAP) announced that one in five children in Appalachia doesn’t have enough to eat.
To help, the group hosted a walk on LCA’s campus on Thursday, uniting schools, churches, businesses, and community members to raise money and gather non-perishables for CAP’s supply pantries in Rockcastle, McCreary, Jackson, and Magoffin Counties.

Cassondra Koett, principal at the Lexington Christian Academy, stressed the importance of students understanding what community service really means.
LATEST KENTUCKY NEWS:
“So many times we think that we have to go beyond our own walls, and we don’t, right here in our own backyards,” Principal Koett told FOX 56. “People suffer from food insecurity. And so it’s really important that our students pick up those service habits early.”
Events were held across the region, and organizers of the hunger walk said families could still participate virtually throughout the rest of September.
