The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has declared that the loss of its members will not deter its agitation for Biafra.
The groupâs National Director of Information, Samuel Edeson, told Sunday PUNCH that the deaths of members would not discourage the push for a sovereign state.
Speaking with Sunday PUNCH on the low-key 24th anniversary of the organisation, Edeson said MASSOB would continue to pursue Biafraâs freedom through diplomacy. He stressed that violence was not an option for the group.
He said, âWe are celebrating this low-key because of the situation of things in the country. But we are being attacked by the security agents of Nigeria. Our members are being killed and that cannot stop us from the agitation. We are going a long way and we will continue to push. It is no retreat, no surrender.
âWe have never engaged in any violence and we will never. Our slogan says âno violence no exodusâ. Our approach is no violence, it is diplomacy.â
Earlier on Saturday, the groupâs National Leader, Uchenna Madu, in a statement issued in Awka, Anambra State, confirmed the anniversary and paid tribute to members who lost their lives in the course of the struggle.
The statement read, âOur non-violence MASSOB members died innocently with brave hearts for the Biafra cause, they were molested, mesmerised, humiliated, brutally killed by the armed security agents of our oppressors.
âToday, we, the remnants of MASSOB activists also remember the parents of our fallen heroes, some are still traumatised, some are dead because of shock while others are living ghosts of themselves.
âWe are committedly, consistently and uncompromisingly agitating for an independent state of Biafra from Nigeria. Biafra is the answer to the numerous subjective slavery Nigeria subjected Ndigbo into, ranging from political, economic, academic, religious, cultural and social slavery.
âMASSOB has resolved that 24 years of our long walk to freedom can never be jeopardised, compromised or corrupted. MASSOB shall never relent in our non-violence Biafra struggle because the truth shall always prevail over falsehood.â
