President Trump calls Charlie Kirk ā€˜martyr for truth, freedom’

ā€œHe fought for liberty, democracy, justice and the American people,ā€ Trump said in a pre-recorded message from the Oval OfficeĀ posted to Truth SocialĀ late Sept. 10, the day Kirk was killed.

ā€œHe’s a martyr for truth and freedom and there’s never been anyone who was so respected by youth.ā€

Trump said he would award Kirk theĀ Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor bestowed upon those who have exemplary contributions to the nation.

Who was Charlie Kirk?

Charlie Kirk has been described as a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA who ā€œdied doing what he loved: fighting for truth, for faith, for family, and for America. His sacrifice will endure as a guiding light for generations,ā€ according to fightforcharlie.com.

āž¤ Conservative leader Charlie Kirk shot and killed at Utah event. Who was Charlie Kirk?

ā€œThrough Turning Point USA, Charlie ignited a fire in the hearts of tens of millions daily. He showed a generation that truth must never be silenced, that courage is contagious, and that freedom must be protected at all costs.ā€

Kirk has been credited for inspiring and rallying young conservatives to fight (and vote) for personal freedom against what he called dangerous liberal ideas, but he has also outraged millions with his views on abortion, civil rights, gender issues, gay marriage and gun rights.

Turning Point USA: ā€˜We will not stop until freedom prevails’

Turning Point USA, which was co-founded by Kirk in 2012, is a nonprofit organization that advocates for conservative politics on high school, college, and university campuses.

ā€œCharlie Kirk poured his life into building a movement rooted in faith, freedom, and love of country. He believed America’s future depended on raising up a generation who would never surrender,ā€ Turning Point USA said.

ā€œNow the responsibility is ours. We will honor his legacy by pressing forward — not slowing down, not surrendering. This is not a time to preserve what was built. This is the time to fight harder, grow faster, and unleash the true power of the grassroots machine Charlie created.

ā€œWe will make Charlie proud. We will defend America’s future. And we will not stop until freedom prevails.ā€

On Sept. 18, the conservative youth activist organization announced its board had unanimously elected Erika Kirk as its new CEO and chair of the board.

Who shot Charlie Kirk?

Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Charlie Kirk.

Robinson wasĀ charged with aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and the commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child, Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray said at a news conference.

Gray said he would seek the death penalty.
