At least 65 law enforcement agencies in Minnesota have reported seeing drivers speeding at 100 mph or more this summer.
Those speeds were recorded as the state’s officers, deputies and troopers gave out 46,624 speeding tickets during an enforcement campaign that lasted from May 1 to Sept. 1, according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.
And that wasn’t all. They also made 1,357 impaired driving arrests and issued 178 “Move Over” citations.
“Drivers often don’t take time to realize how one lapse in judgement can have horrific consequences,” said Mike Hanson, director of the Office of Traffic Safety. “That’s what these enforcement and awareness campaigns are all about. We’re preventing bad decisions and outright reckless behaviors from ending lives.”
Here are the highlights – or rather, lowlights – of the enforcement campaign.
