NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) – The latest drought monitor has been released, accounting for the mostly dry week we have had recently. Compared to late weeks drought update, we are seeing more of our ground in the ‘abnormally dry‘ range. In addition, parts of Tangipahoa Parish and Coastal Mississippi have entered a D1 (Moderate) Drought.
Historically, when entering a D1 drought, farmers plant fewer crops and fire risk increases. Burn bans are in still being enforced in Tangipahoa Parish.
There are no significant rain chances in the forecast for the rest of the week, however a few thunderstorms could bring pockets of heavy rain by next Tuesday. Unfortunately, the coverage of these will not be widespread.
