The management of Olivet College of Health Technology, Azuba, in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has raised concerns over the discovery of more than eleven individuals allegedly posing as students and using the college’s official letterheads at medical laboratory facilities across the state.
The Proprietor, Dr. Abu Cletus, disclosed during a press briefing on Wednesday in Lafia, urging relevant authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly.
He called on law enforcement agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria, and the Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, to look into the matter and determine the motivation behind the alleged scheme.
Dr. Cletus explained that the management became aware of the issue following reports that students of the Medical Laboratory Technology department were being redirected to another health college in Nasarawa Eggon LGA.
Further checks revealed that individuals who were not enrolled at Olivet College were attending practical sessions at medical laboratory facilities while using the school’s letterhead.
He said, “In one facility in Lafia, a letterhead bearing Olivet College of Health Technology, Azuba, including our post office box number, was used by four students who were not ours. The letterhead design differs from our original, and while it carried the department stamp, signature, and phone number of the Head of Department, it omitted the college website.
“In another facility in Akwanga, non-students were added to the list of students posted for practical training using our official letterhead with the department stamp, HOD signature, and phone number.
“In a third facility in Keffi, seven non-students were included alongside ten of our legitimate students, again using our official letterhead and departmental stamp.”
Dr. Cletus expressed surprise that when questioned, the individuals claimed to belong to a supposed Nasarawa Eggon branch of Olivet College, which does not exist. He also clarified that the college has no distance learning programs and operates only from its Azuba campus.
He warned, “Any dealings with fraudulent staff claiming to represent the school are at the individual’s own risk. All official transactions are handled exclusively through the administration office.”
The proprietor confirmed that the case has been reported to law enforcement and relevant professional bodies, including the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSS, Ministry of Health, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists, and the Medical Laboratory Council of Nigeria.
