The National Assembly Service Commission has approved the appointment of Mr. Emmanuel Odo as the Acting Clerk of the Senate.
The announcement was made during the commission’s 10th meeting held on Tuesday in Abuja. Odo becomes the acting Senate clerk following the vacancy created in the administrative structure of the Senate.
The spokesperson of the National Assembly Service Commission, Emmanuel Anyigor, confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The appointment letter signed by the NASC Executive Chairman, Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, read, “I write to inform you that the 6th Commission at its 10th Meeting held on Tuesday, 16th September, 2025, approved your appointment as Acting Clerk, Senate in the National Assembly from 16/09/2025.
“This is in exercise of its powers as provided in Section 6(b) of the National Assembly Service Act, 2014.”
Enyiekere explained that Odo’s elevation was based on his track record of hard work and administrative competence. He urged him to justify the confidence reposed in him by the commission.
Before his new role, Odo served as the Deputy Clerk, Senate (Administration).
His appointment places him at the heart of the Senate bureaucracy, responsible for ensuring legislative processes and administrative functions run smoothly in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
The office of the Clerk of the Senate is a critical one in Nigeria’s legislature.
The Clerk serves as the chief administrative officer of the Senate, providing guidance on parliamentary rules, keeping official records, supervising legislative staff, and ensuring that lawmakers’ decisions are properly documented and implemented.
By law, the clerkship plays a vital role in maintaining institutional memory and upholding the integrity of legislative proceedings.
Odo’s appointment comes at a time when the 10th Senate is navigating complex political debates and oversight responsibilities, making his role in coordinating parliamentary business particularly significant.
