Much of New York’s spectacular foliage is either at or just past peak as we pass the mid-October mark. According to New York’s weekly fall foliage report, stunning seasonal hues and crisp fall days are aplenty across New York state as peak foliage arrives in the Hudson Valley, Central New York, Capital and greater Niagara regions. Peak color is starting to fade, however, from the highest elevations in the Adirondacks and Catskills, where there is also significant leaf droppage.
So, what are the conditions across the state this week? Here’s the sixth report of the season from the state Department of Economic Development, broken out by region:
Hudson Valley fall foliage
Westchester County: Expect a 50% color change in White Plains, with bright reds and yellows.
Rockland County: Expect a 50% change with mostly yellow leaves at Bear Mountain State Park. A 10% color change is expected in Orangeburg, with some touches of yellow.
Putnam County: By the weekend, spotters predict a 30% color change in Cold Spring, with brilliant seasonal hues. Surrounding hills and river views are now alive with bright yellows, deep reds, and hints of purple. Major nearby roads are showing 60% color or more, quickly approaching peak conditions.
Fall colors are at or approaching peak in most parts of upstate New York in the state’s sixth weekly foliage report for the season. This is for the week of Oct. 15 to 21, 2025.
Ulster County: Observers predict a nearly 100% change and just past peak color in Highmount, Phoenicia and Woodstock, with yellow, gold and red leaves. More than 95% change is predicted by the weekend in New Paltz, Highland, Milton and Marlboro with yellow, gold and red leaves.
Columbia County: Spotters predict a 70% color change in Hudson by the weekend, with average to bright orange, amber, ginger and gold leaves, along with yellow shades. Also expect a 70% color change in Valatie, with a colorful seasonal mix.
Orange County: In Newburgh, expect a 60% color change by the weekend, with mostly bright red and orange leaves. Spotters predict a 55% color transition in the Washingtonville area, with a muted to bright mix of fall colors and some droppage. A 45% color change is expected in Cornwall, with muted yellow leaves and touches of red. A 30% color transition is predicted in Westtown, with muted shades of red.
Dutchess County: Spotters also predict a 40% color change in Beacon, with yellow and red leaves. A 40% color change is also predicted by the weekend in Poughkeepsie, with red and purple leaves.
New York City fall foliage
A 50% color change is expected on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, with mostly yellow leaves. A 25% change is predicted in Central Park and the Upper East Side, with yellow, red, and some purple leaves.
Long Island fall foliage
Nassau County: Spotters predict an 80% change on lakeside trees at Mill Pond Park in Wantagh, peak and past peak seasonal colors on trees surrounding the lake, with some leaf droppage. A 50% change is expected at Hempstead Lake State Park in West Hempstead, with large swaths of bright tangerine, crimson, ochre and rust leaves. Trees along the Long Island Expressway are around 40% changed, Also expect a 30% change in East Meadow, with yellow, orange, red and purple leaves. Also expect a 30% color change along the Northern State, Southern State, Meadowbrook State, Wantagh State and Bethpage State parkways, with foliage change just beginning and some areas at midpoint.
Suffolk County: By the weekend, expect a 75% color change at Belmont Lake State Park in West Babylon, with peak and past peak yellow, orange, red and purple leaves on trees surrounding the lake with some leaf droppage. Trees are at 50% change with color at midpoint along the trails and 30% change in the picnic areas. Spotters predict 50% change along the North Shore, with seasonal colors. A 25% transition at Mashomack Preserve on Shelter Island is also expected by the weekend, with muted to average yellow leaves.

Adirondacks fall foliage
Essex County: Spotters predict past peak in the Whiteface Mountain area in Wilmington, with lingering pops of yellow. Expect a full color change and past peak conditions in Newcomb by the weekend, with shades of red and brown. In Lake Placid, expect a full 100% color change by the weekend, with muted mahogany and rust tones. Spotters predict a 90% color transition nand peak foliage in Crown Point, with oranges, rusty brown, russets, golden yellows, reds and occasional dark red leaves. In Ticonderoga, expect an 85% color transition, with bright autumn hues.
Hamilton County: A full 100% color transition and past peak conditions are expected by the weekend in Benson, with mostly yellow and gold shades. Spotters also predict an full color change and past peak foliage by the weekend in Lake Pleasant, with rust, gold, yellow, and some orange and red leaves.
St. Lawrence County: A 100% color transition and past peak conditions are expected by the weekend in Wanakena, with yellow and orange leaves and significant droppage.
Franklin County: Foliage is predicted to be past peak in Saranac Lake, with a full 100% color change by the weekend offering a blend of seasonal colors. Tupper Lake is also past peak but has a mix of yellow and orange leaves. There is also full color change predicted for the weekend in Malone, with mostly muted orange and red leaves.
Lewis County: A full 100% color change and past peak conditions are predicted in Lowville by the weekend, with yellow, orange and red leaves.
Clinton County: Observers predict a 90% change in Plattsburgh with dulling seasonal colors.
Warren County: Observers predict an 80% color change and juts past peak foliage by the weekend in Queensbury, with red and yellow leaves. In Lake George, expect a 50% color transition, with bright shades of yellow and orange.
Capital-Saratoga fall foliage

Saratoga County: Expect up to a 100% change and peak foliage in Saratoga Springs by the weekend, with average to bright yellow, orange and red leaves.
Rensselear County: Spotters predict a 80% change and peak foliage in East Nassau, with bright yellows and muted oranges and reds. Foliage transition is very uneven with some trees fully green, others with good color and some already bare. Expect a 75% color change in Troy, with shades of red and yellow, plus increasing purples.
Fulton County: A 80% change and peak foliage in Stratford is predicted by the weekend, with muted to average yellow and orange leaves. Spotters also predict a 75% color change is predicted by the weekend at Great Sacandaga Lake in Northville, with golden yellow hues.
Albany County: In Voorheeseville, observers predict up to a 75% color change at Thacher State Park, with muted to average yellow, orange and brown leaves and significant droppage. Spotters also predict a 60% change in Cohoes at Cohoes Falls, with a muted to average mix of fall colors and significant droppage.
Schenectady County: Expect a 65% color change by the weekend in Rotterdam, with muted to average shades of yellow, gold and orange. Spotters also predict a 50% change in Central Park in Schenectady, with increasing oranges and reds mixing with the gold and yellow leaves.
Catskills fall foliage
Delaware County: In Dehli, expect a full 100% color transition and past-peak conditions by the weekend, with bright shades of gold. Spotters also predict a full color change and past peak conditions in Colchester, with a few bright pops and significant droppage. In Bloomville and Stamford, expect 90% color change and past peak conditions by the weekend, with mostly muted orange leaves.
Greene County: Observers predict up to a full 100% color transition in the upper and lower elevations of Hunter, Windham and Tannersville, with yellow and brown leaves and significant droppage. In East Durham and Cairo, expect a full color transition and peak conditions by the weekend, with yellow, brown and orange leaves, plus some hints of red. A full 100% color change is also predicted in Round Top, with yellow and light orange leaves and sporadic bright pops of deep orange and red. Expect a 70% color change in Coxsackie, with yellow and orange leaves of varying brilliance, and significant droppage.
Sullivan County: By the weekend a full 100% color change and peak colors are predicted in Forestburgh, with gold and orange leaves, and some bright red pockets. Spotters predict an 85% change in Liberty, with exceptionally vivid reds, oranges, golds and purples, especially in higher elevations, plus in Livingston Manor and Bethel. There has also been significant leaf droppage.
Central New York fall foliage
Chenango County: Observers predict more than a 90% color change and peak foliage in Bainbridge, Norwich and Guilford by the weekend, with average to bright orange and yellow leaves and some hints of purple.
Otsego County: Expect up to an 85% color change by the weekend and past peak in Cooperstown, with muted to average orange, red and brown leaves. In Cherry Valley, an 80% color transition is predicted, with a mix of fall colors and significant droppage.
Madison County: Expect an 85% color transition and peak foliage in Cazenovia by the weekend, with bright rust and orange leaves and some pops of bright red.
Oneida County: Spotters predict a 75% color change by the weekend in Utica, with muted to average yellow, brown and orange leaves.
Herkimer County: By the weekend, a 70% color change and peak foliage in Herkimer is predicted, with average to bright red, orange and yellow leaves.
Broome County: Spotters predict a 60% change by the weekend in Binghamton, with bright seasonal colors and significant droppage.
Schoharie County: By the weekend, observers expect a 60% color change in Middleburgh with orange and yellow shades. Foliage transition is uneven, with some mountains mostly green while others have completely shed their leaves. In Gilboa, more than a 25% color change is predicted, with bright yellow leaves.
Finger Lakes fall foliage
Cayuga County: In Moravia and Locke, expect an 80% change, with average to bright autumnal hues.
Steuben County: Spotters predict a 75% color change by the weekend in Bath, Corning, Hammondsport and Hornell, with orange, yellow and red leaves.
Schuyler County: Expect a 75% color transition by the weekend in Watkins Glen, with muted shades of red, orange and brown.
Tompkins County: Spotters predict a 75% change in Ithaca and Trumansburg, with a bright mix of fall colors, especially orange and red.
Cortland County: Spotters predict up to a 75% color change in Marathon and Virgil, with average to bright seasonal colors. Walnut trees are brilliant and most of the maples are bright orange, slowly shifting to red, while gingkoes and birches are just beginning to turn yellow.
Chemung County: Spotters predict up to a 70% color change in Elmira, with yellow and orange leaves.
Livingston County: By the weekend, expect a 65% color change at Letchworth State Park near Mt. Morris, with mostly yellow and orange shades, plus some reds.
Ontario County: In Farmington, a 60% color change is predicted by the weekend, with bright yellow leaves, plus some red, orange and burgundy. Expect a 50% transition in Canandaigua by the weekend, with muted reds and oranges.
Wayne County: Expect a 60% change in Lyons with mostly muted yellow and orange.
Monroe County: Spotters predict more than 50% color change by the weekend in Rochester, with average to bright yellow leaves and increasing amounts of orange, red, rust and purple.
Seneca County: In Seneca Falls, expect a 50% change by the weekend, with average to bright yellow leaves and some wisps of orange and red. Observers also predict a 50% color change in Waterloo, with bright gold, yellow, purple and red leaves.
Yates County: By the weekend, spotters predict a 50% change in Penn Yan, with shades of red, yellow and brown. Foliage in higher area elevations will be past peak.
Onondaga County: More than 50% color change is predicted by the weekend at Beaver Lake in Baldwinsville by the weekend, with mostly yellow and red leaves and significant droppage.
Chautauqua-Allegheny fall foliage
Cattauragus County: Spotters predict a full 100% color change and past peak foliage in Little Valley by the weekend, mostly brown leaves.
Chautauqua County: Observers predict a 75% color transition in Chautauqua, with bright to brilliant yellows, oranges and reds.
Greater Niagara fall foliage
Erie County: Expect an 85% change and peak colors by the weekend in East Aurora, with brightening shades of red, and plenty of yellow and orange. Spotters also predict a 45% color change in Buffalo, with leaves of golden yellow, plum and shades of red.
Genesee County: In Batavia, expect a 75% color transition by the weekend, with bright autumnal colors.
Niagara County: Observers predict a 70% color change by the weekend in Lewiston, with yellow and red leaves. In North Tonawanda, expect a 70% color change, with a full mix of fall colors.
Wyoming County: Spotters predict a 70% color transition at Letchworth State Park in Warsaw, with bright shades of yellow, orange and red, and also a 70% change in the Castile portion of the park, with shades of yellow and orange along with some reds.
Orleans County: Spotters predict a 65% change in Albion, with a vibrant mix of fall hues.
Thousand Islands-Seaway fall foliage
Jefferson County: Observers predict a full 100% color change in Alexandria Bay, with a full, brilliant range of fall colors.
St. Lawrence County: Spotters predict a 95% color change in Massena, with red, orange and yellow shades.
Oswego County: An 80% color change is predicted by the weekend in Williamstown, with red, purple and orange leaves. Oswego expects a 60% color transition by the weekend, with red, orange and purple leaves.
