Niger State Governor, Mohammed Bago, on Monday dissolved his cabinet, saying the decision followed a performance appraisal of his appointees.
Speaking with journalists shortly after a valedictory State Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Minna, Bago explained that while some commissioners exceeded expectations, others fell short of the administration’s Key Performance Indicators.
According to his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, the governor said the shake-up was aimed at “rejigging” his team in line with the mission and vision of the New Niger Agenda.
“Some had exceeded the Key Performance Indicator of the administration, while a few others did not. It was also discovered that some have strength in other areas, and the administration needs to be rejigged to bring about the desired growth and development,” Bago said.
He added that some former cabinet members may be reappointed, while others would be redeployed to different portfolios.
“I appreciate them for all their contributions to this administration; they have collectively done well,” he noted.
Ibrahim stated that while the cabinet was dissolved, the governor retained the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers.
The dissolved cabinet was inaugurated at the inception of Bago’s administration in 2023.
