The National Orientation Agency has expressed readiness to synergise with the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure a successful Continuous Voter Registration exercise taking off on August 18 in Ekiti State.
NOA State Director, Mrs Oluwakemi Akomolede, harped on the need for eligible voters, who had not registered, to turn out at the INEC offices and designated centres for the exercise to register to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards.
Akomolede, who spoke in Ado Ekiti on Monday at a sensitisation programme, said, “NOA is fully prepared and we are ready to synergise with INEC in Ekiti State to make sure that the CVR exercise goes smoothly and fine and without any hitch”.
Akomolede said that NOA officials would, in the month, embark on sensitisation across the state, “particularly at the grassroots for eligible voters in the state to come out en masse to seize the opportunity to register”.
The INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr Bunmi Omoseyindemi, speaking at a stakeholders meeting comprising political parties, civil society organisations, faith-based associations and marketwomen, announced INEC’s readiness for hich-free CVR exercise.
The REC said that the voter registration ahead of the 2026 Ekiti governorship election would begin on August 18 for online registrants, while physical registration would begin on August 25.
Omoseyindemi listed those legally qualified to participate in the CVR as “eligible citizens who have just attained the age of 18, as well as those who have not registered before to be captured in the National Register of Voters”.
“The CVR also allows for transfer of registration, correction of personal details and replacement of lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.
“INEC has the constitutional mandate to register eligible Nigerians for voting in elections. We will not tolerate any underage person near the registration centres. Don’t mobilise non-Nigerians for the registration. If caught, they will be prosecuted,” the REC said.
Omoseyindemi, who said that the CVR exercise would take place at INEC offices and other centres that would be announced, said it “is critical to the deepening of our democracy”.
The REC charged the stakeholders on their role in mobilising and sensitising the public, as he assured all that “the commission is committed to deploying technology and ensuring transparency throughout the exercise.
“Measures have been put in place to ensure that the CVR is inclusive, accessible and in compliance with the law and INEC guidelines.
“We count on civil society organisations to deploy their reach and influence to educate citizens on the importance of voter registration. We also expect political parties to mobilise their members and eligible supporters following the law, avoiding acts that could amount to multiple registration or any form of infraction.”
