A coalition of young Nigerians from the northern region, the Northern Youth Frontiers, has accused Amnesty International of producing misleading reports that could undermine the country’s security and stability.
In a statement on Friday, the group’s National Coordinator, Sama Musa, described the human rights organisation’s recent publications on the country’s security challenges as “careless, mischievous, and designed to incite chaos.”
Musa said the reports portrayed a distorted image of Nigeria’s security situation, often highlighting sensational narratives without substantiated evidence.
He added that such selective reporting misled the international community, demoralised security personnel, and emboldened those seeking to destabilise the nation.
Musa further argued that Amnesty International’s approach prioritised sensationalism over accuracy, focusing on alleged human rights abuses without giving a balanced view of the complexities involved in combating terrorism, banditry, and other security challenges.
He urged the Federal Government to take decisive action against Amnesty International, recommending an investigation into the organization’s activities in the country.
Musa also called on the government to engage local communities, civil society, and security experts to develop a comprehensive understanding of the security situation and educate the public on the realities faced by security forces.
