Ogun State Government in partnership with Lafarge, has announced the commencement of applications for the 2025 Female Tilers and Block-Laying Training Programme.

The programme, according to statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, is an empowerment initiative designed to equip young women with practical skills in the construction sector which will officially kick off in September 2025 at the Women Development Centre, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, and will run for eight weeks.

Speaking on the initiative, Adeleye described the collaboration with Lafarge as a transformative step towards bridging gender gaps in non-traditional trades.

She noted that “Beyond skill acquisition, the programme also targets employment opportunities for participants, as well as fostering collaboration with other government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the built sector.”

The Commissioner further emphasized that the training, which is 100% free, is specifically open to female applicants aged 18–30 years, with a minimum of SSCE qualification, and resident in Ogun State.

Applications will run from 27th August to 8th September 2025, after which successful applicants will be enrolled for the full-time training.

Adeleye added that “This programme is not only about training; it is about creating doors of opportunity, strengthening women’s economic independence, and building a more inclusive future for our State. We are grateful to Lafarge for partnering with us to make this vision a reality.

“The Ministry, therefore, calls on eligible young women to seize this golden opportunity, while also urging community leaders, civil society organizations, and stakeholders to help disseminate information about the programme. Together, we are not just building blocks; we are building lives, families, and the future of Ogun State.”

The Commissioner also assured that the Ministry will intensify awareness campaigns to mobilize willing and qualified participants across the state.
