The Olu of Arigbajo in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Timothy Oluwole Sunday Mosaku, has joined his ancestors.
Confirming his passage, the monarch’s family, in a release made available to PUNCH Online on Friday, announced the burial rites.
“Wake-keeping service would hold on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at his residence, Olu of Arigbajo palace by 5 p.m. Interment service is fixed for Friday, September 26, at St. John’s Anglican Church, Arigbajo, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State by 11 a.m.”
Born in 1936 to Pa Samuel Olaonipekun Mosaku, son of Egunleti Mosaku (the first son of Mamowolo), Oba Mosaku rose steadily within the traditional hierarchy of Arigbajo.
He became Otun Baale of Arigbajo in 2001, was elevated to Baale in 2008, and in 2010, was formally gazetted by the Ogun State Government as the Oba of Arigbajo.
His coronation and installation were performed by the Alake of Egbaland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo.
All these were according to an earlier interview with Vanguard dated back to December 2023. There the late monarch traced the founding of Arigbajo to his forefather, Kusi Mamowolo, a renowned hunter.
He said, “He came here in search of animals to kill. After killing the animal, eating some, giving out some to others, he would take the rest to Itoku market, Abeokuta. This was how he founded Arigbajo.”
The late monarch also explained the deep ties of Arigbajo to Egba land, noting that his own Owu lineage connected directly to the four Egba sections: Egba Ake, Oke-Ona, Gbagura, and Owu.
Educated at United District Central Primary School, Arigbajo, and Secondary Modern School, Abeokuta, he later attended the Government Trade Centre, Ijebu-Ode, and the Institute of Management, where he earned a Master’s degree in Journalism.
Before ascending the throne, Oba Mosaku worked with Vono Foam Products for 12 years, rising to become union president. He later held managerial roles at CSS Bookshop (Bookshop House, Lagos) and Alumaco Nigeria Limited.
Speaking further in the interview on faith, he stated: “I embrace all the religions: Christianity, Islam and the Traditional or our native one, because I’m king over all.”
