The Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, on Monday, pledged its commitment to the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027

The state chairman of the party, Abayomi Tella, stated this during the inauguration of the campaign council and official campaign flag-off for the August 16 House of Representatives by-election for Remo Federal Constituency.

The federal constituency comprises the three local governments of Sagamu, Remo North and Ikenne Remo.

The post became vacant following the death of the Deputy Chief Whip of the House, Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, on January 15, 2025.

Tella hinted that the South West PDP unanimously agreed to support the President’s reelection because he is of the Southwest extraction.

Tinubu is a member of the All Progressives Congress.

The party described the President as the “father of the nation,” hence the need to ensure his return to office from 2027 to 2031.

Tella urged party faithful to come out in their numbers to participate in the by-election, and not to succumb to intimidation and harassment throughout the electoral process.

Tella said, “We are not going to submit to any harassment or intimidation on Saturday.

“The election is a win-win for the party. This constituency is our stronghold, and this was evident in the outcome of the 2023 election.

“Our party defeated the sitting governor in his ward. They will record defeat as far as this election is concerned.”

The National Vice Chairman of the party, Kamorudeen Ajisafe, before presenting the party’s flag to Bola Oluwole, its candidate, said the Southwest Zonal Secretariat had been temporarily relocated to Ogun State until after the conclusion of the by-election.

Ajisafe expressed confidence in the PDP’s chances, stating that the move was to ensure closer coordination and to stand firmly with the candidate throughout the campaign period.

The governorship candidate of the party in 2023, Oladipupo Adebutu, said the party was supporting Tinubu’s reelection to ensure that the by-election is free, fair and credible.

Oluwole, on his part, urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to allow a peaceful election devoid of any electoral malpractices.
