Olentangy Local Schools, the state’s fourth-largest public district, notched a five-star rating for the third year in a row on the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce results released Sept. 15.
A five-star rating is the highest issued by the state and means the district “significantly exceeds state standards.”
ODEW collects information from the state’s more than 600 public school districts and sorts the data into six categories: achievement, progress, early literacy, gap closing, graduation and readiness (college, career, workforce, military). Beginning in 2022, the state shifted away from an A-F letter grade system to new categories and calculations based on the five-star system.
This is the first year the state is reporting a district’s results in readiness after introducing it several years ago.

Olentangy Local was the only school district in Ohio with more than 10,000 students to receive a five-star rating, Superintendent Todd Meyer said in a release.
“Top ratings don’t happen by accident — but through the strategic, intentional alignment of our staff’s work and commitment to our mission to facilitate maximum learning for every student,” Meyer said.
Here’s how Olentangy Local scored on the ODEW report cards:
-
Early literacy: four stars
-
College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness: three stars
The district also had an average chronic absenteeism rate of 10.8%, under half the state’s average of 25.1%. Chronically absent students are defined as those who miss 10% or more of a school year for any reason.
Michelle Blackley, chief academic officer, said the report card “reflects Olentangy’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence.”
“This recognition reflects the profound efforts of our entire learning community — dedicated staff and engaged families — who work together to personalize learning, support growth, and help every student flourish,” Blackley said.
