Men of the Oyo State Fire Service on Monday prevented a tanker-laden with Liquefied Petroleum Gas, involved in a solo accident, from explosion on the ever-busy Lagos-Ibadan highway.
The tanker was said to be conveying 26 tonnes of LPG, upturned around the Sat Guru Maharaj area, a short distance from the Ibadan end of the disbanded toll plaza.
Chairman, Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday, made available to the PUNCH’s Correspondent, said the tanker swerved and fell on an open road.
Akinwande, however, stated that no lives were lost in the incident and that normalcy had been restored to the road as of the time of going to press on Tuesday.
He said, “Upon arrival, it was a Mack trailer tanker registration number T25163LA loaded with a 26-tonne capacity of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG), that swerved and fell on an open road.
“The officers of the agency quickly swung into action by engaging necessary equipment to calm down the situation and prevent the tanker from explosion.
“No casualty was recorded and the tanker was saved. Normal vehicular movement has been restored.”
