Passenger Randi Muck, who was on the Boeing 737-900 to Ohio, tells Cleveland outlet Fox 8 it was a shocking moment.
âIt felt like we had run over something heavy. Thatâs what it felt like. All of us in the back of the plane were like, âWhat was that?,â she says.
Muck says it seemed as though only those sitting in the back of the plane could feel the impact. She credits a woman sitting behind as the one who brought enough attention to the matter.
âThe lady behind me was like, âDid you see it? Did you see the piece of the plane that fell off?â â Muck says.
The fellow passenger kept hitting the call button continuously and told flight attendants she wasnât comfortable until they stopped to check the plane, Muck tells Fox 8.
According to United, both planes subsequently returned to the gate and âdeplaned normally.â No injuries were reported for the Cleveland flight, which carried 101 passengers and six crew, nor the Orlando flight, which carried 73 passengers and six crew.
The airline arranged for new planes to take customers to their final destination. FlightAware reports flight 544 landed at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport at 12:47 a.m. local time the next day, nearly three hours after its scheduled arrival. Meanwhile flight 2451 landed at Orlando International Airport at 12:03 a.m. local time, just over two hours after its scheduled landing.
