Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party have gone into a closed-door meeting at the Zamfara State Government House, Gusau, on Saturday.
Although the details of the meeting are yet to be disclosed, it is believed to be connected to the ongoing leadership crisis within the party and the zoning of its 2027 presidential ticket.
The PDP is scheduled to hold its 102nd National Executive Committee meeting on Monday, where one of the key agenda is the decision on zoning the presidential ticket, whether it will be ceded to the South, thrown open, or allocated to the North.
Influential party stakeholders are said to be pushing for it to be zoned to the South, arguing that the region still has four years remaining.
This gathering follows Friday’s announcement by Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, who said he would host his fellow PDP governors for a strategic meeting aimed at shaping the party’s direction ahead of its national convention.
According to his spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala, the governors arrived in Gusau on Friday evening for a dinner hosted by the governor, before Saturday’s main session.
The statement added that the meeting is expected to “address pressing political issues, foster unity within the party, and map out strategies for developmental collaboration across their states.”
The PDP National Convention is slated for November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Details of the outcome of Saturday’s meeting are expected soon.
