The Peoples Democratic Party has warned against any attempt to manipulate the upcoming Babura/Garki federal constituency by-election scheduled for Saturday.
In an exclusive interview with PUNCH, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Umar Kyari, cautioned electoral authorities and political stakeholders.
“We want to put everyone on notice that PDP supporters are vigilant and ready to resist any form of manipulation during this election,” Kyari said, stressing that the party will not tolerate any breach of electoral ethics.
He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a transparent and free election.
“INEC must rise to the occasion and protect the will of the people,” he noted.
Kyari also urged security agencies to maintain peace and prevent any intimidation of voters.
“We expect fair treatment and protection for all candidates and supporters,” he said.
He appealed to party members and electorates to remain calm while defending their votes.
“Our commitment is to a credible election process, and we encourage supporters to report irregularities immediately,” he added.
Kyari alleged that some forces might attempt to influence the election unlawfully, but affirmed PDP’s readiness to confront any such moves.
“We will fight any threat to democracy in this crucial electoral contest,” he warned.
Confident in the party’s popularity and grassroots support, Kyari said: “We trust the people’s judgment and their desire for change,” noting PDP’s growing presence in the region.
He also called on all stakeholders, political parties, security agencies, and civil society to uphold the sanctity of the ballot box.
“Let fairness and justice prevail for a peaceful election.”
The Babura/Garki by-election follows the death of the federal constituency representative, creating a closely contested race between APC and PDP candidates in the state.
