The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, on Wednesday, commended the Federal Road Safety Corps for resolving delays in the production of driver’s licences across the country.
PEBEC Director General, Zahrah Audu, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abuja.
She said, “PEBEC acknowledges the prompt and comprehensive actions taken by the Federal Road Safety Corps in response to service delivery concerns regarding delays in the production of driver’s licences nationwide.
“The FRSC has successfully cleared accumulated backlogs and boosted its daily production capacity to 15,000 licences after it launched an internal review, traced the cause of the disruptions and restored full system functionality.”
Audu praised the Corps for introducing stronger monitoring measures to prevent further breakdowns in licence production – an innovation she believes can deliver permanent licences within 48 hours and eliminate the need for temporary ones.
The commendation comes one month after the FRSC announced that it has cleared a substantial portion of its driver’s licence backlog ahead of the 2025 Ember Months public awareness campaign.
The Corps said it reduced the backlog from 800,000 to 400,000 after operating its printing facilities around the clock.
PUNCH Online reported in October that the FRSC announced the introduction of a contactless biometric capture system for driver’s licence issuance, marking a significant shift toward digitalisation in Nigeria’s motor vehicle administration.
