Firefighters in Napa County, California have been working around the clock for days to contain a wildfire that continues to grow. The Pickett Fire, as it is known, grew to 3,993 acres overnight on Friday.
Cal Fire’s Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit has deployed 350 emergency personnel, with hand crews, dozers, engines, water tenders and helicopters putting in an aggressive effort to suppress the blaze. As of the most recent update, the wildfire is 7% contained.
With temperatures in nearby Calistoga above 90 on Friday, heat has played a major factor in the blaze and the safety of firefighter crews.
Though the fire has burned in the relatively remote hills of Napa County, new evacuation orders and warnings continue to be issued for the surrounding area. Several nearby vineyards are reportedly threatened by the growing blaze.
Only five years ago in 2020, Napa and Sonoma Counties were hit with devastating wildfires that left more than five people dead, leveled hundreds of homes, and destroyed millions of dollars of wine and grape crops from vineyards.
