The Nigeria Police Force is enhancing its operational capabilities through the acquisition of cutting-edge technological devices and comprehensive training programs, aimed at bolstering the fight against violent crimes and improving intelligence gathering across the country.
This strategic move, spearheaded by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, comes in response to the dynamic and evolving nature of criminal trends.
Speaking on the Force’s renewed commitment, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, reiterated the importance of these advancements.
“The Inspector-General of Police has consistently highlighted the importance of continuous training, capacity building, and adoption of modern technologies to effectively address the evolving security challenges facing the nation,” Adejobi said in a statement on Saturday, emphasising the Force’s dedication to a proactive, intelligence-led, and community-oriented approach to policing.
The newly acquired state-of-the-art technological devices and applications have been deployed to the Force’s Technical Intelligence Unit. These advanced tools are expected to play a crucial role in improving crime detection, facilitating effective crime prevention, and enabling the swift arrest of criminals nationwide.
In parallel with the technological upgrade, the IG has initiated rigorous training programs for TIU personnel. These programs are designed to align with global intelligence standards, equipping officers with the necessary expertise to operate the new technologies effectively. The training ensures that the Force remains adaptable and proficient in confronting contemporary criminal practices.
The IG emphasised that the continuous shift in crime dynamics, both globally and within Nigeria, necessitates a proactive and technology-driven approach to policing.
The statement quotes Egbetokun as saying, “This commitment to improvement has already yielded significant successes, including the recent arrest of a notorious arms peddling gang operating across Benue, Taraba, Adamawa, and Plateau States, among numerous other arrests in recent weeks. These achievements are attributed to the enhanced effectiveness of the Force’s intelligence-led policing initiatives.”
The IG reaffirms the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to implementing robust measures to prevent crimes and criminality across the country, assuring Nigerians of a resilient and effective response to emerging security threats.
