The Jigawa State Police Command has dismissed as fake a viral video purporting to show armed bandits riding motorcycles through Dutse, the state capital.

The police said the footage, which sparked panic on social media, was entirely fabricated and misleading.

PUNCH Online reports that the Jigawa State Police Command has repeatedly assured residents that, despite the state’s location in the North-West region — an area affected by banditry and insurgency — Jigawa remains a secure and peaceful state, free from the grip of such criminal activities and terrorism.

The video, which circulated widely online, was debunked in a statement issued to journalists in Dutse on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.

The false claim alleged that at about 12:47 a.m. on October 28, 2025, a large group of armed bandits on motorcycles rode through the metropolis towards an undisclosed location.

Adam described the claim as “entirely false, misleading, and mischievous,” urging members of the public to remain calm and disregard the rumour.

According to him, investigations revealed that the individuals captured in the video were members of the Peace and Security Service Organisation—hunters from Bauchi State.

“They carried traditional gear like Dane guns, bows, and arrows, not bandit weapons. The group was simply returning from a meeting in Chai-Chai Sabuwa, Ringim Local Government Area, when someone filmed them.

“This is pure misrepresentation that could spark needless tension”, Adam stated.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, also appealed for calm, urging residents to go about their lawful activities without fear.

He commended the public for supporting security efforts with useful information, adding, “Report any suspicious movement to the nearest police station and stay vigilant.”

Adam reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, saying, “Jigawa Police stands firm in our mandate — together, we will keep the state safe.”

PUNCH Online reports that the Jigawa Police Command reiterated its determination to maintain peace and order across the state.
