Kebbi State Police Command said its operatives in Shanga Local Government Area neutralised three suspected kidnappers in the early hours of Sunday.
The incident, which occurred this morning at about 2:30 am, followed intelligence that a gang of suspected kidnappers were sighted in a forest along the Tungargiwa–Saminaka road, allegedly planning to ambush commuters plying the route.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, the Divisional Police Officer of Shanga swiftly mobilised a combined team of policemen and vigilante operatives to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gun battle. At the end of the encounter, three suspected kidnappers were neutralised, while one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, and seven live rounds of ammunition were recovered,” the statement read.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, commended the DPO and his men for their swift and courageous response. He described the successful operation as proof of the Command’s determination to rid the state of violent crimes.
“The intensified patrols around Shanga and adjoining communities are already yielding positive results. This success also shows what can be achieved when security agencies and local communities work together,” CP Sani stated.
He further appreciated residents for promptly sharing intelligence with security operatives, stressing that such cooperation remains critical to crime prevention.
The police boss reiterated his call on citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to the nearest security agency, noting that “prevention of crime is the best strategy in safeguarding the lives and property of the people of Kebbi State.”
