The Provost of the Federal College of Education Ofeme in Abia State, Dr. Titus Ezeme, has called on corporate organisations and well-meaning individuals, especially Ofeme/Ohuhu people to support the institution for development

Ezeme, who stated this  when an American based medical doctor and philanthropist, Chikwendu Nwosu paid him a courtesy visit in his office at the weekend urged host community not to leave the development of the institution solely in the hands of government.

He appreciated Nwosu for awarding scholarships to some of their pioneer students adding however that the institution still need more

“My team and I appreciate your effort in awarding scholarships to our students, your act helped in kick starting the 2024/25 academic session. Like Oliver Twist, we still have areas of need, like accommodation for staff, perimeter fencing, books for our library among others” the provost said.

Earlier in his address, Nwosu, commended the Provost and his management team for building the institution from scratch to the position it is now, promising to collaborate with the institution in many areas especially in the medical lines

“We are ready to help ensure that the medical section of school works. We can provide the infrastructure and collaborate with the school since you already have a medical doctor who is a staff. My diaspora friends and I will be consulting twice weekly to make it better”.

Nwosu who noted that the challenges of the college are enormous expressed appreciation to the management for bracing up to the challenges in difficult times

“I appreciate the difficult terrain you are going through, but I want to assure you that you are not alone, you have my support and that of the host community.

“Please don’t abandon the school because everything starts and ends with your leadership style. We pray for you always, and in no distance time the college will be turned to a federal university “, he stressed.

Meanwhile, the provost in a related development, warned lecturers against laxity, absenteeism and insubordination.

He gave this charge on Monday while addressing members of the Expanded Management members in his office

Ezeme said, “This is the first time we are having a meeting like this. It took this long because of the fact that we want everyone to properly settle down to his or her duties.

“I am pleading with you all to ensure that our students don’t over stay as a result of mistake they may unknowingly commit during registration of courses.”

The Provost further urged the Deens and Heads of departments to ensure strict compliance to the school rules, stressing that the era of laxity is over.

According to him,  “Federal College of Education Ofeme, has come to stay because the period of doubt is over, therefore, I want you all to key into the vision of the School management, which remained making the institution the best world over in a teacher education.

“Coming late to work will no longer be tolerated, ghost workers will not work here, absenteeism and insubordination will not be allowed.”

As part of the measure put in place by the school management, the Provost directed the heads of various departments to constitute “Quality Assurance Committee”, whose responsibilities will be to ensure adherence to set down rules by the lecturers in other to meet standard already put in place.
