Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has commended the Cherubim and Seraphim Church for its century-long commitment to spiritual growth, humanitarian service, and national development, describing it as a reliable partner in the collective effort to transform communities and uplift lives.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde, at the C&S Centenary Celebration Award and Gala Night held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Sanwo-Olu lauded the church’s impactful interventions in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, water provision, and welfare. He noted that these efforts strongly align with his administration’s commitment to inclusive development across Lagos State.
“For a centenary, this great Order has been more than just a spiritual decision; it has been a reliable ally in transforming lives and strengthening our communities,” the governor said.
Sanwo-Olu emphasised the importance of faith-based institutions in driving social change, especially in supporting the youth and promoting unity.
He praised the church for its evolving role beyond miracles and healing to now include structured evangelism, education, and empowerment of young people.
In her address at the event, the Iya Aladura General and founder of The New Seraph, Dr. Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, urged the church to deepen its commitment to youth empowerment, unity, and service to humanity.
“The youths are very important to us. They are the future of our church and the future of Nigeria,” she said, calling on the church to invest more in educational and unifying activities that will guide the next generation toward excellence.
The Chairman of the Centenary Anniversary Steering Committee, Dr. Harold Demuren, also praised the church’s resilience and unity over the past 100 years.
He said the milestone was a testament to God’s grace and the visionary leadership that had kept the C&S Church strong despite challenges.
The centenary celebration also paid tribute to the legacy of the church’s founder, St. Moses Tunolase, and honoured individuals and institutions that have supported its global expansion and impact.
The centenary anniversary ended with a grand celebration at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Tuesday.
The joint centenary celebration featured various C&S groups, including the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim, The New Seraph, The Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim, Agbo Jesu, Zion Church, Motalitu, and the Organisation of African Instituted Churches.
The celebration drew prominent Christian leaders, clerics, and dignitaries, including the Prelate of ESOCS, Baba Aladura Bob-Manuel; representatives of the Pope; the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria; and several royal fathers, among them the Owa Ale of Ikare Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adefemi Adegbite II.
Also present were the Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke; Prophetess Marian Adeleye-Akinjogunla; renowned juju musician Sir Shina Peters; government officials; and members of the wider Christian community.
