Six Powerball tickets sold in Washington missed the $1.79 billion jackpot but still won big, lottery officials said.

Four tickets won $50,000 in the Sept. 6 drawing after matching four numbers and the Powerball, according to a spokesperson for Washington’s Lottery. Another two tickets included a Power Play add-on that brought their winning totals to $100,000.

Nationwide, tickets sold in Texas and Missouri were grand prize winners and will split the near-record-breaking jackpot, while millions more tickets won prizes from $4 all the way up to $2 million, McClatchy News previously reported.

The winning numbers were white balls 11, 23, 44, 61 and 62, and red Powerball 17. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

Where were the winning Washington tickets sold?

Here’s where Washington’s $100,000 tickets were sold, according lottery officials:

  • Chevron, 16256 NE 8th St., Bellevue

  • Safeway, 5204 W. Clearwater Ave., Kennewick

Here’s where the $50,000 tickets were sold, according to lottery officials:

  • Rosauers Supermarket, 410 S 72nd Ave., Yakima

  • Safeway, 13308 Meridian E, Puyallup

  • Waitsburg Grocery, 200 Main St., Waitsburg

Powerball winners across the US

Two tickets sold in Texas and Missouri matched five numbers and the Powerball to take home the grand prize, according to Powerball’s website. Meanwhile, 16 tickets across the country matched five numbers to win $1 million, while two more —sold in Texas and Kansas — included a Power Play add-on, bringing their winnings to $2 million. ks added

Two tickets sold in California also matched five numbers, winning $1.5 million. McClatchy News reported. That state makes adjustments to prize totals based on how many tickets are sold and win. nk added

The $1.787 billion jackpot was the second-biggest ever, a Powerball news release said.

The jackpot winners “will have the choice between an annuitized prize of $893.5 million or a lump sum payment of $410.3 million,” Powerball officials said. “Both prize options are before taxes. If a winner selects the annuity option, they will receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.”

In all, nearly 10 million tickets nabbed cash prizes in the drawing, officials said.

When is the next Powerball drawing?

The next drawing is Sept. 8, with a $20 million estimated jackpot.

People can buy Powerball tickets in 45 states, Washington, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

McClatchy News reporter Don Sweeney contributed to this report.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.
