Soccer-Argentina move Puerto Rico friendly from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale

(Reuters) -Argentina’s friendly against Puerto Rico in the United States has been relocated from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale and rescheduled for Tuesday due to security and logistical concerns, organisers said on Wednesday.

The match, originally set for Monday at Soldier Field, will now take place a day later at Chase Stadium in Florida, home of Argentine captain Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami.

According to local reports, the change was prompted due to widespread protests in Chicago over U.S. immigration policies, which made it difficult to guarantee the event’s security.

The switch also gives the option of extending ticket sales and scheduling the match in the evening.

Reuters has contacted the Argentine Football Association for comment.

World champions Argentina, who have already secured their spot in next year’s World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, will also face Venezuela in a friendly on Friday at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami as part of their warm-up.
