Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has ordered security agencies to treat anyone caught acting as an informant for bandits with the same severity as the criminals themselves.
Aliyu gave the directive during a condolence visit to Wurno and Rabah Local Government Areas, where recent bandit attacks claimed lives and destroyed property.
Visibly shaken by the devastation, the governor condemned informants as “unpatriotic citizens selling out their communities for peanuts,” vowing that his administration would no longer tolerate their activities.
“We are determined to fish out these dastardly informants and their accomplices by all means. No informant will be spared under this new approach,” Aliyu declared.
He urged residents to support security efforts by reporting suspicious individuals—especially those living above their means—to the authorities.
He also tasked Islamic clerics to use sermons and prayers to sensitize followers on the dangers of banditry and aiding criminal groups.
The governor listed measures already taken to combat insecurity, including the deployment of more than 170 patrol vehicles and motorcycles, the upward review of allowances for security personnel in volatile areas, and the establishment of the State Community Guard Corps.
While pledging continued support for security agencies, Aliyu thanked Sokoto residents for their prayers and solidarity, urging them to remain vigilant and cooperative as the state intensifies its fight against banditry.
