The Peoples Democratic Party in Sokoto State has declared that it is strategically positioned to reclaim political power in 2027, citing growing support among youths and women across 23 local government areas.
This came as the party said it would await the direction of its leader and former governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, on the direction for 2027.
Addressing a well-attended meeting held at the party’s state secretariat on Saturday evening, a PDP chieftain, Faruku Sarkin-fada, expressed confidence that the party’s grassroots mobilisation efforts were yielding results.
On the issue of the much-speculated opposition coalition ahead of the next general election, Sarkin-fada said party members were waiting for the final decision of Tambuwal, whom he described as a “visionary leader with the political experience to guide the PDP to victory.”
He stressed that whatever direction Tambuwal chose, the members would follow wholeheartedly in the interest of unity and electoral success.
Party insiders hinted that more strategic meetings would be held in the coming weeks to consolidate alliances, strengthen internal structures, and prepare for possible coalition talks.
“For now, all eyes are on Tambuwal to unveil the PDP’s definitive political roadmap in Sokoto State as the countdown to 2027 gains momentum,” a party insider said.
While some prominent party leaders were in attendance at the meeting, the majority of participants were energetic youths who turned up in large numbers to show solidarity with Tambuwal.
Sarkin-fada noted that the administration’s blueprint for 2027 would be anchored on the aspirations of the people, particularly the younger generation, who form the bulk of the electorate.
According to him, the party’s recent outreach programmes, ward consultations, and social engagement initiatives had been instrumental in reconnecting with the grassroots.
“We are not just waiting for 2027; we are working daily to ensure the people see PDP as the credible alternative,” Sarkin-fada emphasised.
