Among those affected were airport TSA agents, who are essential workers and therefore had been required to work throughout the shutdown with the goal of receiving back pay when the government reopened.

However, the promise of back pay wasn’t always enough to pay the bills that were due in the interim.

So, while waiting on their paychecks, it appears some airport staff have gotten crafty. According to one redditor, someone spotted this tip box on their recent trip:

Others begged people to be more empathetic. “You guys are being heartless,” they said. “Yes, TSA sucks, some TSA agents are massive jerks, but all of the agents are people who have families to feed and rent to pay and they’re not getting paid, for something that is totally out of their hands.”

“Until you know what it’s like to be forced to show up to work without getting paid, maybe take a beat before posting your shitty comments.”
